Learn to Skate USA - Basic Skills Program

Learn to Skate USA is designed for the beginning skater to attain and advance basic skating skills. The program utilizes small group lessons to teach correct technique in the basic fundamentals of skating so the skater may progress to more individualized areas of figure skating, ice dancing, or hockey. Participating skaters are registered as a basic skills member with US Figure Skating Association. The membership includes:

  • USFSA Official Membership Card
  • USFSA Basic Skills Record Book
  • General Sports Accident Insurance
  • Official USFSA Basic Skills logo, year end patches, and certificates earned for levels passed.

EAFSC Learn to Skate USA members have the opportunity to participate in basic skills competitions and are eligible to skate in exhibitions and the annual Ice Show, and all other Learn to Skate functions.

EAFSC typically offers 8-10 week Learn to Skate USA sessions in the fall and winter. Sessions are generally on Sunday and Thursday evenings. Skaters ages 4 to adult are eligible to participate. Pre-registration is necessary. Basic skills sessions for levels 1-3 are 30 minutes and consist of small group lessons taught by a highly qualified coaching staff. Skaters who have achieved Basic level 4 and above are eligible for increased lesson time through our Advanced Learn to Skate program (formerly Junior Club). Advanced Learn to Skate sessions are 50 minutes on Sunday evenings, and are also taught in small groups. Progress evaluations are conducted on a continual basis and skater levels advanced accordingly.
